About Me

Hello! My name is Miss Kim, and I grew up in Elk Ridge, Utah, an idyllic little community at the base of Mount Loafer. I played the piano from a young age and (as told by my mother) have been singing since before I could talk. Growing up, I participated in as much musical theatre as I could audition for, and enjoyed singing in and playing the piano for school choirs.

After graduating from Payson High School in 2008, I attended Brigham Young University. I always knew I wanted to teach, but deciding what to teach was more difficult. I eventually settled on a dual program- elementary education and elementary music education. It was a double major in all but name. I graduated from BYU in 2016, fully certified to teach Elementary School - either in music or the general education classroom.
I then spent 4 years teaching at Eagle Valley Elementary. I taught Kindergarten for all 4 years, was the school music specialist for 3 of those years, and I conducted the school choir. I have a passion for teaching, and love bringing the gift of music to children.

I have been married for just over 10 years to my best friend, Jeremy. Together we have 3 children. Avonlea is 7, Conrad is 4, and Harmony is 2. I have enjoyed having a music studio at this stage in my parenting so that my own children get to experience the joy of singing and playing music with all their new friends. We're excited to sing and play with all our new friends, and hope you will join us!

A bit about my philosophy...

I believe that children learn music best through experiencing it on many levels - hearing it, singing it, playing it on instruments, analyzing it (in however basic a form is needed), and comparing it to other pieces. As with any language, the earlier they begin, the easier the language of music will be to learn.

All of my music classes will focus primarily on American Folk Song. The children will experience a variety of fun games and activities (many nearly forgotten in our society) as they learn to become competent musicians and have the chance to practice important social skills such as taking turns, listening to others, and performing for a group.
